Maine Media Workshops + College will host a weekly Alumni Lecture Series from October 7 through December 14, 2021, featuring stimulating conversations on a wide array of topics in photo, film, book arts, and writing. The fall lecture series kicks off on October 7th, 2021, from 1 to 2 pm EST with a lecture by book artist Daniel Kelm, hosted by Charles Altschul. Material, Form, and Movement will feature shared highlights from more than 43 years of research into unique book structures that facilitate the integration of photo, image, text, and binding achieved through an awareness of material, form, and movement. Daniel E. Kelm is a book artist who enjoys expanding the concept of the book. He is known for his innovative structures as well as his traditional work. His expression as an artist emerges from the integration of work in science and the arts. Alchemy is a common theme in his book work. Before Daniel began his career in the book arts he received formal training in chemistry and taught at the University of Minnesota. He is known for his extensive knowledge of materials.

About the Lecture Series
As a response to the social isolation brought on by COVID-19, in the Spring of 2020 Maine Media launched Maine Media’s Alumni Network in hopes of keeping alumni meaningfully engaged in the arts during a difficult time. In an effort to be inclusive and expand the community, this year the Alumni Lecture Series is open to the public–and free of charge.
Sponsors for the series include: Eaton Peabody, Attorneys at Law, Allen Insurance and Financial, Page Gallery, Two Ponds Press, and The Country Inn at Camden Rockport. Donations to the Alumni Lecture Series support Maine Media’s Annual Fund. To sponsor the Alumni Lecture Series, contact Amy at amorley@mainemedia.edu.
