Steel-Pro Purchases Property in Union, Maine to Move Production Facility from Rockland

August 19, 2022

Steel-Pro Incorporated is excited to announce the recent purchase of 12+/- acres in Union, Maine. Continued, steady, growth for Steel-Pro has created a need to look for a new location that is large enough to allow for additional production space.  There is currently no set timeline for a move as the new location will require development and construction of the new facilities.  The purchase of this property adds security to the strong future of Steel-Pro and all its employee-owners.

“We are excited to bring our company and employee-owners to the town of Union and look forward to building our new, state-of-the-art, facility in the near future. Our goal is to increase our output capacity and our overall revenue, while continuing to add great career opportunities for people in the trades.” Steve Ladd – President of Steel-Pro.

According to Thomas Kennedy, Director of Business Development, The Union property will have more parking, more laydown area, an increased overall building size, and improved efficiencies with new technology and automation. “This location brings us further inland and will allow us to pull talent from new labor pools that were previously limited by our location on the coast.”

Steel-Pro is currently hiring for welders, grinder/polishers, and general laborers. All employees are part of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and the company is 100% employee-owned.

The existing structures on the new property will be demolished in the near term as Steel-Pro works towards further developing the site. There is no plan to reuse any of the existing structure.

“Steel-Pro’s people design and build the highest quality fabrications that are used around the world, we deserve a facility that reflects who we are and what we do. While we are excited to start our next chapter in Union, we cannot forget the city of Rockland where Steel-Pro’s story began in 1978. The city of Rockland has always been great hosts to Steel-Pro and we are sad to go! Unfortunately, our needs have far outgrown our current space.” Steve Ladd – President of Steel-Pro

Steel-Pro will continue production in the Rockland location while developing the new facility in Union. As of now, the post development future of the Rockland facility has not been decided.

Steel-Pro is currently located at 771 Main Street in Rockland, Maine. It produces state-of-the-art stainless steel and alloy tanks and pressure vessels for Pharmaceutical, Alternative Energy, Life Science, Food and Beverage, and other industries.  Learn more about this company at the company website:
