In the event of a home fire, did you know that you have just 2 minutes to get out safely? Most people don’t realize a fire can engulf a home in such a flash. That’s why the American Red Cross of Northern New England wants to make sure everyone within our communities — especially those most vulnerable — have working smoke alarms and an escape plan to help stay safe from home fires. If you live in the Camden, Rockland or Rockport areas and need assistance, visit redcross.org/EndHomeFiresNNE or call 1-800-464-6692 (option 4) to schedule an appointment for a free smoke alarm installation on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
During the installation visit, Red Cross volunteers, community partners and the Camden, Rockland and Rockport Fire Departments will also share information on the causes of home fires, how to prevent them, what to do if a fire starts and how to create an escape plan. Because of generous donations, all services are free. If you live outside this area, use the same website or phone number above to request an install and a Red Cross volunteer will contact you about scheduling.
If you’re interested in donating to the Red Cross visit redcross.org/EndHomeFiresNNE to help people prepare for, respond to and recover from home fires. Visit the website to also learn more how to keep your family safe.
Sound the Alarm is part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, a year-round initiative to reduce home fire-related deaths and injuries. Locally, the Red Cross has installed 17,638 free smoke alarms and made 5,593 households safer across Maine since 2014.
