Have you made the move to the Maine Tax Portal yet? Now is the time to switch!
Maine Revenue Services is urgently reminding Maine businesses and tax professionals that existing electronic filing and payment systems (I-File, MEETRS, EZ-Pay) will be deactivated on May 31, 2023 for most business taxes and programs. After May 31, the Maine Tax Portal will be the only option for filing, managing, and paying Maine state business taxes online.
Taxpayers and tax professionals are strongly encouraged to print records from the I-FILE system and set up a Maine Tax Portal account before May 31, 2023.
What is the Maine Tax Portal?
The Maine Tax Portal is Maine’s new online tax system and is replacing existing legacy systems, including I-File, MEETRS and EZ Pay. The Maine Tax Portal makes it easier, faster, and more convenient for you to file, manage and pay state taxes online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What do I need to do?
1. Preserve your I-File records. Be sure to print your history from I-File from the past three years. Those records will not be available on the Maine Tax Portal.
2. Create a Maine Tax Portal username and password at revenue.maine.gov . Maine businesses and tax professionals should create a Maine Tax Portal account now.
3. Talk to your tax professional. If you use a tax professional to file your Maine state taxes, both you and your tax professional will need to create accounts on the Maine Tax Portal. Once you have done so, you will need to authorize your tax professional to access your account. Step-by-step instructions and resources are available on maine.gov/revenue/portal.
