Summer Wellness Programs at the Camden Public Library

June 2, 2022

The Camden Public Library announces the schedule for summer wellness programs at the library. During the months of June and July, the library will host five different wellness classes taught by local instructors. All sessions will take place in the Camden Amphitheatre, except for the Community Mindfulness Meditation Group, which meets indoors in the library’s Picker Room. Both members and non-members of the library are welcome to participate in the programs, which are offered by optional donation (unless otherwise noted). A portion of the donations benefits the library.

Musical instrument creator and Sound Therapist Jim Doble will offer a relaxing Sound Bathing experience using a multitude of gongs and chimes. He will be joined by Forest Weston, who will play a variety of deeply resonating didgeridoos. Sessions will occur 6:00 – 7:30 pm on Sundays June 5, June 19, July 17, and on Monday, July 25. Contact Doble at 207-785-2212 or jim@elementaldesign.me for details.

Anna Dembska, a certified teacher of Yang Family Tai Chi, will teach Tai Chi and Qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginner classes are appropriate for people of all levels of fitness. The first Tai Chi class in June will occur on Thursday, June 2, at noon. Following that, summer Tai Chi classes will be held Mondays and Fridays, from 10:30 a.m. to11:30 a.m.

Every Tuesday and Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT) Denyse Robinson will offer a yoga class. Robinson will guide participants through a sequence of Yoga poses that are both grounding and uplifting. Suitable for all levels. Every Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Health and Wellness Coach Hester Kohl Brooks will facilitate Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation that brings the body into a state of deep relaxation. It does not require holding poses or other physical exercise. Contact Brooks at hesterkohlwellness@gmail.com for details.

On second and fourth Wednesdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., mental health worker and Reiki practitioner Ben Silverman will lead a Community Mindfulness Meditation group in the library’s Picker Room. Silverman says, “Community Mindfulness is an initiative which aims to blend foundational wellness practices with a light, supportive, and fun group experience.” Contact Silverman at benjaminsilverman1@gmail.com for details. This program is 100% free, no donations accepted.

Programs in the Amphitheatre are weather dependent. More information and the full schedule of events at the library can be found at librarycamden.org. Participants are encouraged to contact the instructors, so that they may be notified if a class is to be canceled or moved to a different location.
