Camden Area Christian Food Pantry gives thanks for local produce

October 21, 2021

An orchard in Rockport proved a bountiful setting recently for board members of the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry (CACFP). As they’ve done in the past, the Simensky family kindly invited CACFP volunteers to come and pick as many apples as they could carry away from the family orchard.

And pick they did! The CACFP team gathered a variety of apples and departed with more than 20 overflowing shopping bags to be offered the following week to the families and clients who frequent the Food Pantry.

Another source of local produce for the pantry is Erickson Fields Preserve in Rockport, a program of Maine Coast Heritage Trust. The Teen Ag Program gets high school students onto conserved lands—planting, growing, and harvesting vegetables for local pantries, schools, and restaurants.

For several years, CACFP has been the grateful recipient of crates of fresh vegetables, delivered twice weekly, during the summer and fall. Camden Area Christian Food Pantry clients enjoy cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, beets, kale, Swiss chard, and carrots depending upon the season.

The CACFP board is very appreciative of the support of these generous people and organizations who provide the pantry with locally grown food that helps feed the families in our communities.

Camden Area Christian Food Pantry is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving residents of Appleton, Camden, Hope, Islesboro, Lincolnville, Rockport, Searsmont, Union, Washington, and others in need. To learn more about Camden Area Christian Food Pantry, visit or
